1. Nature of AI output
AI systems can generate inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, biased, or fabricated information. Outputs may omit relevant legislation, cases, rules, facts, or procedural requirements. Retrieval or browsing features may improve currency but do not guarantee completeness or correctness.
AI output is informational software output, not a professional opinion. Independently verify consequential information against authoritative sources and obtain professional advice where appropriate.
2. Product-specific use
Form and triage tools
Some Services may suggest forms or next steps based on information you provide. Recommendations are automated informational suggestions and do not determine that a form, procedure, or remedy is legally appropriate, complete, timely, or sufficient for your circumstances.
Legal research and citation tools
Research tools may identify cases, statutes, passages, or possible propositions. Users must verify citations, current treatment, jurisdiction, pinpoint references, and surrounding context before relying on an output.
Document drafting
Generated clauses, letters, pleadings, forms, and other drafts require human review. YourLegalAid does not guarantee that generated documents satisfy court, tribunal, regulatory, evidentiary, service, or filing requirements.
Witness and cross-examination training
Simulation tools are educational and may generate unrealistic, incomplete, or inappropriate responses. They do not predict how a real witness, adjudicator, or proceeding will unfold.
Immigration tools
Immigration information can change quickly. Users must verify requirements against current official government sources and remain responsible for deadlines, eligibility, and submitted information.
Public-data and review features
Where AI summarizes public records or user reviews, a summary may omit context or mischaracterize the source material. User ratings and reviews reflect the contributor's account and are not verified findings unless expressly identified otherwise.
3. Prohibited uses
You must not use YourLegalAid AI to:
- impersonate a lawyer, paralegal, or other regulated professional;
- provide legal services to another person where doing so requires a licence or authorization you do not hold;
- fabricate evidence, citations, court records, or official documents;
- knowingly submit false information to a court, tribunal, regulator, or government body;
- make solely automated decisions about another person where doing so would violate applicable law; or
- process information you do not have authority to provide.
Self-represented users may use the Services to work on their own legal matters, subject to these Terms and applicable law.
4. Automated decisions
Where YourLegalAid merely provides information, rankings, drafts, suggestions, or decision support and a user independently decides what action to take, the feature is not necessarily an exclusively automated decision about the user.
Quebec — decisions based exclusively on automated processing
If we use personal information to render a decision concerning an individual that is based exclusively on automated processing, we will provide the notices and information required by applicable Quebec privacy law no later than the time required by that law.
Where applicable and requested, this includes information about:
- the personal information used to render the decision;
- the reasons and principal factors and parameters that led to the decision; and
- the individual's right to have personal information used to render the decision corrected.
The individual will also be given the legally required opportunity to submit observations to a member of personnel who is in a position to review the decision.
5. Data submitted to AI features
Information submitted to an AI feature is handled under the Privacy Policyand any applicable organizational agreement. We distinguish between processing necessary to generate an output, security and abuse-prevention processing, analytics used to understand the Service, and model training, fine-tuning, or similar reuse of customer content.
YourLegalAid will not make a blanket public promise that customer content is excluded from provider model training unless the applicable provider settings, contracts, and internal controls support that statement. Stronger enterprise commitments may be set out in an applicable order form or Data Processing Addendum.
6. Confidential and sensitive information
Do not submit information you are not authorized to disclose. Organizations should establish internal rules governing privileged, confidential, and sensitive information before enabling AI features for personnel.
7. Verification requirements
Before relying on AI output for a consequential legal task, verify at minimum:
- the primary source;
- jurisdiction;
- currency and amendments;
- case treatment and appeal history where relevant;
- quotations and pinpoint references;
- deadlines and procedural requirements; and
- material facts supplied to the system.
8. Changes and contact
AI systems and providers can change. We may modify models, retrieval systems, or providers while continuing to comply with the Privacy Policy, contractual commitments, and applicable law. Use the Contact page for questions and the Legal Centrefor related policies.
